Agricultural Cultivation Area

This agricultural cultivation area development is carried out based on conformance of land and taking the conditions of use existing land into account.

a. Wet Land Agricultural Area

Viewed from the characteristics of land system and land conformance and existing potential, the planning area has land conformance for wet land agriculture, particularly along Mamberamo River and its surroundings as well as in the surrounding areas of big rivers existing in the Regency of Tolikara.

b. Dry Land Agricultural Area

Land potentials for dry land agricultural development based on land conformance exist in several districts, namely:

1. District of Karubaga, Goyage, ±2,524 Km2.
2. District of Bokondini, ±193 Km2.
3. District of Kembu, Panaga, Umagi and Wina, ± 936 Km2.
4. District of Kanggime, Woniki, ±394 Km2.

Kinds of commodity in dry land agriculture which can be developed are: non staple food crops (Cassava, Yam, Soybean, Peanut, Green Pea, Long Bean, Potato, Corn, Caladium), kinds of horticultural plants are fruits (Passion Fruit, Orange, Pineapple, Banana, Avocado, Guava) and vegetables (Carrot, Mustard Greens, Leek, Garlic, Red Onion, Cucumber, String Bean, Spinach, Eggplant, Swamp Cabbage, Chayote, Cabbage).

c. Plantation Area

Land potentials for dry land agricultural development based on land conformance exist in several districts, namely:

1. District of Karubaga, Goyage, ± 3,047 Km2.
2. District of Bokondini, ±2321 Km2.
3. District of Kembu, Panaga, Umagi and Wina, ± 1,115Km2.
4. District of Kanggime, Woniki, ± 1,018 Km2.

Kinds of commodity which can be developed are: Chocolate, Oil Palm, Coconut and Red Fruit.

d. Animal Farm Area

Based on the characteristics of land system existing in the Request of Tolikara, no land appropriate for animal farming activities is available. However, viewed from the present conditions, various kinds of livestock such as Goat, Sheep, Cow, Pig, Chicken have been raised by the community and have given big contribution in production, more or less 238 tons of animal meat in 2004. Whereas the land which can be used for animal farming in the Regency of Tolikara is pasture with a total area of 647 Km2 spread in all districts.

e. Fishery Area

Potentials for fishery development in the Regency of Tolikara are available or more several districts as follows:

1. District of Karubaga, i.e. in Lake Biuk.
2. Spread in all districts with the area of ± 3 Km2.

Kinds of commodity which can be developed are goldfish, parrot fish, catfish, eel, sembilan fish.
